Symposium "Building Together a Better Future"


The 2010 symposium “Créer ensemble un gage d’avenir” (Building Together a Better Future) brought together nearly 200 professionals from across the province to share their expertise on work integration for people living with any kind of disabilities. Supported by special guests, such as Sam Hamad, former Minister of Emploi et Solidarité sociale (Employment and Social Solidarity), Diane Finley, former Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, as well as Mr. Daniel Gélinas, Québec City’s 400th Anniversary Chairman, the event was a huge success and opened the door to experiencing renewal.


  • Business skills development: Solutions to employers need (Marilyn Desmarais and Alain Lemieux)
  • Examples of customized training: horticulture, bookbinding/serigraph and office clerk training (Diane Genest and Liette Landry)
  • Adapted self-employment or how to develop entrepreneurship in people with disabilities (Dominic Garneau and Lise Prud’homme)
  • People with disabilities: a solution to the labor shortage problem (André Grenier and Martin Prévost)
  • Starting a disabled workers cooperative: an exportable experience (François Côté, Patrick Vézina and Martine Cazes)
  • Transition from school to work: a simple model that works in the Eastern Townships (Marie-Andrée Lemieux and Nancy Gravel)
  • St-Hubert restaurants, a partnership project: presentation of various financial support measures available (Yvon Lemieux, Jocelyn Fortier and Johanne Rioux)
  • The emergence of new clients: an integration pilot project by the employment of young people living with a pervasive developmental disorder (Caroline Valade, Éric Poirier, Lucie Verreault and Pierre Nadeau)
